Other Backward Class
The Other Backward Classes (or OBCs) in India are a group of castes officially recognized as being traditionally subject to exclusion, while still having a higher status than scheduled castes or scheduled tribes. OBCs comprise about half of India's population, and are entitled to 27% of the job reservations in government employment. In India's constitution, OBCs are described as "socially and educationally backward classes", and governments are enjoined to ensure their social and educational development.
