Other World
The Other World in Irish mythology is the spirit world which coexists with the real world.
Crossing Over
On New Year's Day, November 1 (Samhain), it was believed that mortals could cross over to the spirit world and fairies from the spirit world could cross into the mortal world. Sometimes, fairies would steal human babies and leave Changelings in their places.
Role in Mythology
This mythical world was described lavishly in Irish poetry as being a land of paradise, happiness, and summer. Many mythological heroes, such as Cúchulainn and Bran in the Voyage of Bran crossed over as part of their adventures.
