Palakkad

Palakkad is a district in Indian state Kerala, bordering to Tamil Nadu, Malappuram, and Thrissur. It is famous for its Paddy fields, typical Kerala villages,palm trees, Malampuzha Dam and the Tippu's fort. Palakkad previously know as Palghat is also called "Rice-bowl of Kerala", thanks to its vast area of paddy fields. Kanjikkode is a notable industrial area. In 1991, its estimated population was 2382235.


Palakkad is famous for its Never ending Green paddy fields, and the "PALGHAT WIND" which comes from the palghat pass, situated in Walayar, as a gap in the Western Ghats. The longest river of Kerala, Bharathapuzha, is a hipchain to palakkad.

Palakkad has in its credit the oldest and richest cultural heritage of Kerala. Valluvanad, now comprising of Ottapalam - Shoranur regions is supposed to have the purest form of Malayalam.
