Panch National Park

The Pench National Park is located in northwestern Maharastra, 70 km from Nagpur. Spread over an area of 275 sq.km, it also extends into the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh. The vegetation here is mostly of the southern tropical deciduous forest type. As such the scene of lush green forests changes in summer. February to April is the best time to visit as animals are easily seen. The Park is well-known for its deers and panthers. Besides, there are many other animals too like the gaur, sambhars , blue bulls, macaque, langoor , wild boar, bears and wild dogs. Though few tigers and civet cats can also be spotted. A small number but varied types of birds are seen. The timings of the Park are between 5 in the morning to 7 in the evening. The Pench National Park can be approached by road as well as railway. The nearest rail-head is at Ramtek and a bus can be taken for the next 35 km to the Park. The well-known religious place, Ramtek , can also be visited on the way. The other important natural forests in Maharashtra are also comparatively close to Pench. The Nagzira Senctuary and the Navegaon National Park in the Bhandara District can be combined with Pench.
