Papa
Papa can refer to:
- The letter P in the NATO phonetic alphabet.
- Name of mother Earth according to Polynesian mythology. See Papa (mythology).
- A Korean drama. See Papa (drama).
- In Hinduism, bad merits that occur due to bad deeds.
- The town of Pápa in Hungary.
- An English slang word for father.
- The word "father" or a variation of it, in many languages (see below).
- The Spanish word for potato (in some dialects) and slang for "food".
- (in uppercase and with the definite article) the Spanish and Italian word for Pope. Also used occasionally by some Catholics regardless of language.
A lot of languages (often unrelated) have words with labial consonants and open vowels as their word for "father" and "mother"; /papa/ is just one example. A discussion of this phenomenon can be found in the article Mama and papa.
