Partawi Shah
Partawi Shah is a famous poet of the Northern Areas of Pakistan.
He was born in 1917, in Hyderabad, a small village of Hunza, Pakistan.
After achieving his scholarly reputation he renamed himself as Prof Dr Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai. His formal education did not go beyond primary school, but he received an honourary Ph.D. degree from a university, and has been appointed honourary university professor.
He is the first Sufi poet to have a Diwan (collection of poems) in the Burushaski language, and is the author of more than one hundred books, of which many have been translated into English, French, Swedish, Persian, Turkish, and Gujarati languages. His works on the Burushaski language, grammar, vocabulary, history and traditions is highly appriciated while his spritual status is under a shadow of controversies and his opponents acuse him of creating a new cult.
