Citizens' Action Party

(Redirected from Partido Acción Ciudadana)

The Citizen's Action Party (Spanish Partido Acción Ciudadana, PAC) is a political party in Costa Rica which encourages citizen participation and involvement in politics. One of its main ideals is to fight against corruption, arguing that it is one of the main causes for subdevelopment and voter apathy.

It was founded in December 2000 and startled the Costa Rican political arena with a very strong showing in the 2002 general elections. The founder of the party and Presidential candidate Ottón Solís was able to get a historic 26% of the votes, and forced a runoff between the two traditional parties PLN and PUSC. PAC also won 14 seats in the Legislative Assembly , making it the third political force in the country. A few months later after an internal fight, 6 of the party's 14 Congresspersons left the party, leaving PAC with only 8 seats.
