Path
The word path has a variety of meanings:
- a path is a route between two points. It may also be used metaphorically, as a philosophical route to a desired state or destination .
- For hiking, a path is often synonymous with a trail, although trail generally implies longer distances, unsurfaced ground, and natural terrain, whereas a path, particularly in an urban setting, can be much shorter, have a paved surface, and meander through landscaped areas.
- A path in graph theory is a sequence of vertices of a graph where there is an edge from any vertex in the sequence to the following vertex.
- A pathway in biochemistry is a series of chemical reactions within a cell. See Metabolic pathway
- Path in computing is the general form of a file or directory name.
- PATH is also an esoteric programming language.
- A path in a topological space X is a continuous function from the unit interval [0,1] into X.
- PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) is an underground electric railroad linking Manhattan, New York with locations in New Jersey.
