People's United Party

The People's United Party is the ruling [[social democratic] political party of Belize. It won 22 of 29 seats in 2003. It presently has 21 of 29 seats in the Belize House of Representatives, having lost 1 seat to the United Democratic Party in a By-Election in early 2004, after the death of 1 of the 22. The Belize Cabinet (Executive Branch) is led by Prime Minister Said Musa.

The party governed Belize from independence in 1981 to 1984, then 1989 to 1993, and now again from 1998. In its first two sessions of government it was led by George Cadle Price, who founded the party in 1950.
