Peter Christopherson

Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson (born February 27, 1955) is one of the original members of the infamous Industrial Records band, Throbbing Gristle. In Throbbing Gristle, Sleazy was able to cultivate the modern sampling methods that are now standard. He also helped create the first keyboard-triggered sampler. It was with this instrument that sample-based electronic music took its contemporary shape. He's also participated in two other famous industrial bands, Psychic TV and Coil. Christopherson met John Balance while working on a few Psychic TV albums, and they decided to collaborate on their own personal project, thereby forming Coil.

He has also worked with design agency Hipgnosis on album sleeves for bands including Pink Floyd and the Alan Parsons Project.

Christopherson is also a well-recognized music video director. He has directed the following videos and bands:

  • Marc Almond - Waifs and Strays, Tainted Love '91, and Say Hello Wave Goodbye '91
