Peter Cormack

Peter Cormack (born Edinburgh, July 17 1946) was a footballer who reached his peak in the first great Liverpool side of the 1970s.

A skilful midfield player who won nine caps for Scotland, Cormack was signed by manager Bill Shankly from Nottingham Forest in 1972, having started his career in his native Edinburgh with Hibernian. He costs 110,000 pounds.

He was an integral part of Liverpool's midfield as the Anfield club won their first trophies of the 1970s - a League championship and UEFA Cup double in 1973. He then added an FA Cup winners' medal to his haul as part of the team which destroyed Newcastle United at Wembley in 1974.

In 1976, Liverpool completed another League and UEFA Cup double with Cormack in the side, but the conversion of Ray Kennedy from striker to midfielder then left Cormack in the lurch and he departed for Bristol City the following season for 50,000 pounds. He later returned to Hibernian, managed Partick Thistle and took coaching roles in Cyprus and Botswana. His last role in football was as manager of Cowdenbeath and he now works on the after-dinner circuit.
