Phenomenon (1996)

Phenomenon is a 1996 drama, romance, and fantasy film written by Gerald DiPego , directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring John Travolta, Kyra Sedgwick, Forest Whitaker, and Robert Duvall.

The story is about an ordinary small-town mechanic named George Malley (John Travolta), whose life is transformed by a strange flash of light he observes on the evening of his 37th birthday. The following days, George starts to experience an extraordinary form of intelligence, absorbing information like a sponge, bringing up new ideas, and even using telekinesis. He puts his new intelligence to good use in his community. At first, local folks (most notably love interest Kyra Sedgwick, town doctor Robert Duvall and best friend Forest Whitaker) are intrigued and amused. However, they gradually become afraid. Everyone wants to figure out why this happened to an ordinary man. The government also wants to get their hands on it to put it to other uses.
