Philip Christison
General Sir Alexander Frank Philip Christison (November 17, 1893 - December 21, 1993) was a major British military figure of the Second World War.
Christison commanded the British forces at Rangoon, and defeated the Japanese in several battles in the region. Eventually becoming the highest-ranking British officer in Southeast Asia, he took the surrender of all Japanese forces in that area on September 3, 1945.
General Christison went on to become Secretary of the Scottish Education Department in the 1950s and 1960s. He died in 1993 at the age of 100.
