Philip Reeve

Philip Reeve is a bestselling British author and illustrator. He was born in Brighton in 1966 and worked at a bookshop for several years before becoming an illustrator. He provided cartoons for many books including those in the Horrible Histories series and wrote the Buster Bayliss series of books for young readers, which currently includes Night of the Living Veg, The Big Freeze, Day of the Hamster, and Custardfinger. His first book for older readers was the bestselling Mortal Engines which won the Nestle Smarties Book Prize Gold Award and was shortlisted for the Whitbread Book Award. Mortal Engines is the first book in the Hungry City Chronicles series, which also includes Reeve's Predator's Gold. The books are about the lives of two young adventurers, Tom Natsworthy and his disfigured companion Hester Shaw, who live in a lawless futuristic world. Reeve plans to continue Tom and Hester's story in two additions to the series, Infernal Devices (coming out March 18, 2005) and A Darkling Plain . He presently lives in Dartmoor with his wife Sarah and his son Samuel.
