Piano Concerto No. 5 (Beethoven)
Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major, Op. 73, known as the Emperor, was his last concerto for piano. It was written in 1809.
Like the "Moonlight" Sonata, the title of "Emperor" is not Beethoven's own. This three movement work was completed in 1811; it has a duration of approximately 38 minutes.
The movements are:
- Allegro (Piano Concerto No. 5 (E flat Major) - Movement 1 - Allegro.mid)
- Adagio un poco mosso (Piano Concerto No. 5 (E flat Major) - Movement 2 - Adagio un poco mosso.mid)
- Rondo - Allegro ma non troppo (Piano Concerto No. 5 (E flat Major) - Movement 3 - Rondo - Allegro ma non troppo.mid)
Beethoven's final concertos have fairly long initial movements. The Violin Concerto has the longest at 25 minutes; the Piano Concerto Nos. 4 and 5 each have opening movements about 20 minutes long.
