Picture Bride
Picture Bride is a book by Yoshiko Uchida .
Picture Bride is about a girl named Hana Omiya, a Japanese woman who becomes a "picture bride", or a person whose marriage is arranged by family members by exchanging photographs. The novel is about Hana's experiences in the United States. She arrives in San Francisco in 1917 and gets detained in a Japanese internment camp in 1943.
A 1994 movie version of Picture Bride has a different name for the protagonist; she is named "Riyo" in the movie. The setting is also different; Riyo goes to Hawaii and marries the owner of a plantation.
