Pierre Samuel du Pont IV
Pete DuPont (born January 22, 1935) (full name Pierre Samuel du Pont IV) is an American politician who served as Governor of Delaware from 1977 to 1985. As of 2005, he is national policy chairman of the National Center for Policy Analysis.
DuPont lives in Wilmington, Delaware and North Haven, Maine.
He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Princeton University, and Harvard Law School, was in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1960, and was employed by E.I. du Pont Co. from 1963 to 1970.
He was a U.S. Representative from Delaware from 1971 to 1977 and was elected Governor in 1976. He was re-elected in 1980.
He ran unsuccessfully in the Republican Presidential primary of 1988.
DuPont is married to Elise Ravenel Wood du Pont, heir to the Wawa Food Markets chain of convenience stores. The couple has four children.
