What is playing range

The playing range of an instrument is the difference between an instruments lowest note and its highest note. All pitched instruments have a playing range. All instruments have a designated range. A designated range is the notes the player should or can get. Most woodwinds can not go beyond or bellow their designated range, but this is not the case for brass instruments. All brass instruments can play beyond and bellow their designated range. Notes that are lower than the brass instrument's designated range are called pedal tones. Notes highter thn the brass instruments designated range are called screech notes . In that sense the playing range of a brass instruments isn't as much about an instrument but about the musician.
