Pleasant Hill is located at 31°49'5" North, 93°31'0" West (31.818013, -93.516715).
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 786 people, 293 households, and 200 families residing in the village. The population density is 194.5/km² (505.4/mi²). There are 337 housing units at an average density of 83.4/km² (216.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 58.78% White, 35.11% African American, 3.18% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.80% from two or more races. 1.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 293 households out of which 37.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% are married couples living together, 18.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% are non-families. 30.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.17.
In the village the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 84.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.6 males.

The Battle of Pleasant Hill , the bloodiest Civil War battle west of the Mississippi River, was held here. Every April, a reenactment of the battle is held. It is one of the few Civil War reenactments actually held at the battlefield on which the battle was fought.
