Poiana Brasov
Poiana Brasov is a ski resort preferred by some tourists because it is relatively inexpensive compared to ski resorts in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and other European states.
It is located at about 1200m above sea level near the city of Brasov, and it is easily accessible by road. The resort runs regular buses to take you to the base of the ski resort from where you can hike or take a cable car to the main ski runs on the Cristian or Postavaru summits. At the top of these summits you can see over the entire Brasov region.
Poiana Brasov is reputed to have many high quality hotels and restaurants that represent good value for money. The majority of the restaurants cater for foreign tourists well. Two of the better known ones are: Sura Dacilor (The Dacian Shed) and Coliba Haiducilor (The Outlaws' Shack).
When the ski season is not in full swing the Brasov region is thought to be a quiet relaxing place. During the ski season, like many other ski resorts, Poiana Brasov gets very busy. Amongst other attractions in Poiana Brasov you can find traditional mulled wine and a pepper spiced alcoholic drink known as Tzuica . There is plenty of traditional Romanian fare on offer for anyone who wants to try it.
