Pokénav

The Pokénav or Poké-navi (short for Pokémon Navigator) is a key object in the Pokémon games carried by Pokémon Trainers in the land of Hoenn to avoid getting lost. In the Ruby and Sapphire games, the Pokénav is manufactured by Devon Corporation in Rustboro City.

Contents

Functions

The Pokénav has four options (even though not all of them are active when the Pokénav is first acquired). They are: #Hoenn Map, #Pokémon Condition, #Trainer's Eyes, and #Ribbons. In Pokémon Emerald it also has a cell phone option called #Entry Call.

Hoenn map

The Pokénav has an internal map of Hoenn (which has been simplified by making everything into squares) that shows the trainer's position on the map. By zooming in, the trainer can see what special buildings can be found there (for example, ROUTE 110: CYCLING ROAD, TRICK HOUSE) If the trainer has visited that city or town before, a small map of it will be displayed. After the trainer has filled his or her Pokédex with 100 Pokémon, the Pokénav also shows what Pokémon can be encountered on the selected route.

Pokémon condition

This option shows the Pokémon's Contest stats (COOL, BEAUTY, CUTE, SMART, TOUGH) using a five-point system, or an irregular pentagon that streatches each one of its five points towards the label of the stat according to how it is. Contests stats are increased by feeding the pokémon Pokéblocks which are made by mixing berries into candy with a Berry Blender.

Trainer's eyes

Most of the trainers that the trainer who owns the Pokénav has battled are recorded here with a short profile of them. This option also alerts when they are ready to re-battle.

Ribbons

Here the Pokénav records how many ribbons each Pokémon has won in Pokémon contests and which ribbons they are.

Entry Call

With this option, trainers can call up other trainers using the Pokénav like a cell phone, similar to the Pokégear from earlier games.

In the anime

Max holding the Pokénav

In the Pokémon television series, Max carries his sister's, May's, Pokénav around since he knows how to use it better. In the episode Stairway to Devon, Max spills some soda over the Pokénav, damaging it, and has to take it to Devon Corp. to repair it.

Max often uses the Pokénav to help Ash decide which city to head to next.
