Ponevezh yeshiva
Ponevezh yeshiva (or Pononvezh). Is one of most famous Haredi Judaism yeshivas with roots among the Lithuanian Jews. It is historically from the town of Ponevezh (or Panevezys) Lithuania. It was relocated to Bnei Brak in Israel by its Rosh yeshiva Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman who was its leader since Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman became the rabbi of the town of Ponevezh in 1919.
However recently the Yeshiva has been going through some tough times with Rabbi Haim Peretz Berman and Rabbi Shmuel Markovitz fighting for control of the yeshiva. In February 2005, Rabbi Haim Peretz Berman was ambushed outside his Bnei Brak apartment on the way to morning prayers. The assailant pummeled Berman's face with brass knuckles and continued to hit him after he fell to the ground.
