Pope Eugenius I
(Redirected from Pope Eugene I)
Eugene I, pope (655-657), was a native of Rome. Elected pope in 655, on the banishment of Martin I by the emperor Constans II, he showed greater deference than his predecessor to the emperor's wishes, and made no public stand against the patriarchs of Constantinople. He died in 657, and was canonized, his day being the 2nd of June, although according to Anastasius, he died on the 1st of that month.
