Potamia's nearest school, church, and a square (plateia) are in Dafni or Paos. The population has been going downward.
The area lies next to a river and where the name of the settlement comes from. Forests dominate the valley. Rocky landscapes, barren land and grasslands dominate the mountains in the north and south. There are some farmlands in the area.
