Praxis (moon)

In the Star Trek universe, Praxis is a moon of the planet Qo'noS, the homeworld of the Klingon empire. Praxis was the key energy production and dilithium mine facility for Qo'noS until it exploded due to unsafe mining practices in the year 2293, blowing off about 60% of the moon's material. This endangered the entire Klingon empire and sparked the formation of a Klingon-Federation alliance at the Khitomer Conference. Exactly how this alliance rectified the effects of the Praxis explosion, and exactly how and why the moon's destruction threatened an entire empire, has never been explained in canon. Fanon and non-canon speculation suggests that when the moon exploded it created a ring around Qo'noS, threatening life on the planet and, by extension, the government of the Empire. In any event, Qo'noS is shown to still be inhabitable and still the seat of power well into the 24th Century.

The fictional moon of Praxis was introduced in the movie Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
