Predator's Gold

Predator's Gold is a book by author Philip Reeve, this being the author's second published work. It is the sequel to the bestselling Mortal Engines, continuing the series of what is known as The Hungry City Chronicles, with an ISBN of 0060721936. It has been published by Eos, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers in the US.

Synopsis

The story continues the adventures of Tom and Hester Shaw in the Arctic two years after the destruction of London.During that time, Tom and Hester have been using the Jenny Haniver, their former comrade Anna Fang's airship, to travel across the world. The story begins when the two aviators meet Professor Pennyroyal, who persuades them to take him as his passenger. Being pursued by the airships of the Green Storm, (a fanatical splinter Anti-Traction League sect) they crash onto the frozen Ice Wastes. They are rescued by Anchorage, once a thriving Traction city that relied primarily upon trade, that has been ravanged after a deadly plague breached the city from a piece of ancient hardware. The city is ruled by Freya, margravine of the city and a decendant of the old royal house Rasmussen. Frequent rumours also haunt the city that ghosts are aboard Anchorage. These so called "ghosts" are actually thieves from a parasite ship that feeds off of Anchorage. Tom and Hester's troubles are far from over, though, as Professor Pennyroyal has persuaded Freya to set the city's course for the presumably Dead Continent known as America, with larger "predator" suburbs hot on Anchorage's trail.
