Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Benedikte Astrid Ingeborg Ingrid zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, was born on 29 April 1944 at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. She is the daughter of King Frederick IX of Denmark and Queen Ingrid and is the sister of the current reigning Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II.

She was married on 3 February 1968 at Fredensborg Palace Church to Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, (b. 29 October 1934). He is the son of Prince Gustav Albrecht zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (1907 - 1944) and his wife, Margareta Fouchè (b. 1909).

  • Gustav, Prince zu-Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, born 12 January 1969
  • Alexandra, Princess zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, born 20 November 1970. She was married on 6 June 1998 at Gråsten Palace to Count Jefferson of Pfeil and Klein-Ellguth (b. 12 July 1967).
    • They have a son, Count Friedrich Richard Oscar Jefferson of Pfeil and Klein-Ellguth, born 14 September 1999
  • Nathalie, Princess zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, born 2 May 1975
