Prodigy (comics)
Prodigy is a fictional character, a mutant in the Marvel Universe, one of the student body in the Xavier Institute, and a member of the New Mutants squad therein. His real name is David Alleyne, and he first appeared in New Mutants (volume 2) #4.
David has a mental block that keeps him from retaining the knowledge he absorbs from those around him. He asked Emma Frost to remove the block so he could become the most intellegent man on the planet, dispite danielle moonstars warnings. quickly surpassing all the teachers at the school (afterall, he knew everything they did simply by passing by them) he left the school, telling Josh (aka Elixir) that he would use Josh's power to heal every disease known to mankind for free. a few years later , David alleyne announced at a press confrence that he had a cure for aids, cancer and every other known disease. he planned to distribute this cure across the entire country in a matter of week. Josh wasn't present at this Press confrence, becuase he had to die in order to do this for humanity.
in the next 18 years, David did many things. He married Surge. he became president, removed poverty and the unemployment rate and he got nearly every country allied with America. His plans for creating world peace? wiping out China by teleporting bombs in. he already declared the Hellions, (a rival group of the new mutants) as terrorist threats and blamed them for killing the X-men. even though David actually killed them by sending them to a satillite and then blowing it up. The Hellions staged an attack along with the New mutants, and in the end failed, Noriko, President Alleyne's wife herself, blew up the White House. at this point it was revealed to be a complex illusion created by Danielle Moonstar amplified by Emma Frost's telepathy to show David why his mind created the mental block.
Others to have used the codename "Prodigy" in the Marvel Universe include Spider-Man (briefly), and Ritchie Gilmore of the Slingers who was given a replica of the costume Spider-Man had used when he briefly took the Prodigy name.
