Q1 tower
The Q1 Tower is a building currently under construction on the Australian Gold Coast. According to the owner and constructer, the Sunland Group, the Q1 building will be the tallest residential building in the world.
When completed in 2005, the structure will stand 323 metres above ground, have 80 levels and consist of 527 apartments. Perhaps the most amazing feature will be the ten story "sky garden" (levels 60~69), which as the name implies, will be a tropical garden spanning 10 whole levels, completely enclosed in the building.
The Q1 tower was expected to be the worlds tallest residential building upon completion. However, on the 10th of January 2005, the firm currently building the Eureka Tower in Melbourne, Australia, lodged an application with the local planning authority to add a 53.75 metre high communications mast/ observation tower to the Eureka structure. The current Eureka design is approximately 280m high. However, if the application is accepted, it will make the Eureka Tower the tallest residential building in the world, and thus removing the moniker from the Q1 tower, as the Eureka tower would then stand 27 metres higher than the Q1.
