R1 (motorcycle)
The R1 motorcycle began in 1998 as the first 1000cc class motorcycle, with continued dominance in that class until 2003, when the redesigned SuzukiGSXR-1000 brought groundbreaking performance numbers to the Liter-class sportbikes(also known as "Superbike class"). Yamaha revealed its 2004 updated R1 to compete with such other Liter-class super bikes such as the SuzukiGSX-R 1000 ("gixxer"), the completly redesigned for 2004 Honda CBR 1000RR , and the Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja.
