Kawasaki built 200 cars of the second contract of the R68 . It was built in Kobe, Japan on 1988 and 1989. First service enter on summer of 1990 on the D - 6 Avenue line. R68A is slightly same as R68 but the only change was the lead cab door to modified as a sliding door similar to the R46 lead cab door. R68A built in pure stainless steel on exterior side and even in the interior appearence. Now, R68A is on the and - Broadway Lines and sometimes making apperance on the and - 6 Avenue Lines. R68A now stored and serve at Coney Island Yard.
