RAF Buchan
RAF Buchan is a Royal Air Force station near Buchan in Aberdeenshire. It is (until March 2005) home of an Air Defence Radar Unit and one of the two Control and Reporting Centres in the United Kingdom. As such it is responsible for coordinating all aspects of air defence in the Northern UK region.
The base opened in 1952. The major part of the base is scheduled to close on March 31 2005, and was offered for sale on 16 July 2004. A remote radar head will continue to be operated near the site. RAF Buchan is currently the parent station for two remote radar heads: RRH Benbecula and RRH Saxa Vord.
