Radioligand
A radioligand is a radioactive biochemical substance that is used to study the receptor systems of the brain.
The radioligand is injected in the blood stream of a subject and crosses the blood-brain barrier. In the brain tissue it binds to a receptor. When the radioactive isotope in the ligand decays it can be measured, e.g., by positron emission tomography.
