Rain (Mortal Kombat character)

Contents

Intro Facts

  • Rain is a purple ninja whose alignment is unclear in the Mortal Kombat series.
  • His fighting styles are unknown.
  • No foes or allies have been confirmed, though Shao Kahn was once one and may have become an enemy. If so, then Kitana could be said to have replaced him. There is yet no evidence of this, however.

Game Appearances

He appeared in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and Mortal Kombat Advanced.

Trivia

Rain appeared in the movies "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" and "". However, both movies are irrelevant and unofficial to the original Mortal Kombat story line from the games. He also appeared in the cartoon television show "", which is also unofficial to the Mortal Kombat storyline. It is unknown if he will appear in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, "".

In-Game Fighting

Rain's specialty moves in Mortal Kombat are his ability of lightning, and his ability to control water (though what forms is unknown). This ability is displayed both in his friendship (making it rain over his opponent) and a technique in which he hurls water on his opponent and can levitate them for a brief period of time. Else, his moves are just punching and kicking combos.

Rain's Story

Rain's father was the general of the Edenian army. During Shao Kahn's invasion in Edenia, his father was killed by Kahn's henchmen. During this time, Rain was still a baby. Kahn ordered his henchmen to hide away Rain and raise him to be evil. Thousands of years later (Edenians have long life spans) Shao Kahn brought Rain, now an adult, to side with him in a war against Earthrealm. Rain, knowing that Kahn invaded his realm, decided to fight alongside him rather than die in his hands. Although he did not know that his father was killed in the invasion yet. Rain fights like a true warrior for his master but Kahn's own step daughter, Kitana, turns Rain against his master. Kitana tells Rain about his true past... about his father. There are three things that could have happened. Rain could have continued to fight for Kahn to the death or simply quit fighting for Kahn and disappear in the shadows. In his ending it is stated that Rain embarks on a suicide mission to kill Kahn during an extermination squad attack. While it is possible that Rain tried, it is known that he did not succeed, since Shao Kahn was killed by the Deadly Alliance, also known as Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. It is revealed in MK: Deception that Rain did not succeed at the suicide part of the mission (if attempted) either, because he is currently a prisoner of the Dragon King Onaga in Mortal Kombat: Deception.

Official In-Game Bio and Ending

Bio: Born on Kitana's former world of Edenia, Rain was smuggled away from the realm as a small child shortly after Shao Kahn's take over. Thousands of years later he resurfaced. His allegiance belonging to Kahn, he chose to betray his homeland rather than suffer at the hands of Kahn's extermination Squads.

Ending: Rain fights valiantly for the emperor Shao Kahn, but it would be Kahn's own step daughter, The Princess Kitana who turns Rain against him. Like Kitana, Rain's origins also come from their former realm of Edenia. He learns that his father was once a general in Edenia's army and died at the hands of Shao Kahn himself. Enraged at the truth about his history, he joins Kitana in aligning with the Earth Realm Warriors. But his allegiance comes under question when he mysteriously disappears during an extermination squad attack. To prove his loyalty he embarked on a suicide mission to destroy Shao Kahn and end the menace once and for all.
