Raj Reddy

Raj Reddy is a prominent researcher in artificial intelligence.

After his undergraduate study at the College of Engineering, Guindy (now Anna University) in 1958, he did a master's degree at the University of New South Wales and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1966.

Among many awards, he received jointly with Edward Feigenbaum the Turing Award, the most prestigious prize in computer science, "For pioneering the design and construction of large scale artificial intelligence systems, demonstrating the practical importance and potential commercial impact of artificial intelligence technology".

He is currently the Mozah Bint Nasser University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University. Among the several institutes at CMU that were founded under his initiation are the Robotics Institute, the E-Commerce Technologies Institute. He is currently (February 2004) the director of CMU West .

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by India in 2001.
