Geography

The district includes the south coast of the island of Newfoundland, the Stephenville area, the Burin Peninsula , and the west-central coast of Trinity Bay including Random Island . Communities include Stephenville, Marystown, Channel-Port aux Basques, Clarenville, Grand Bank, Burin , Harbour Breton , Burgeo , Fortune and Stephenville Crossing. The area is 38,281 sq. km.

History

The electoral district was created in 2003 87.1% from Burin—St. George's , 12.9% from Bonavista—Trinity—Conception , and 0.1% from Humber—St. Barbe—Baie Verte. The incumbent for the majority of the riding is Bill Matthews of the Liberal Party of Canada.
