Random sample
A sample is a subset of a larger population. A random sample is one chosen by a method involving a random (i.e. unpredictable) component. A simple random sample is one in which every item/object therein had an equal opportunity/chance/probability of being selected from the larger population containing all items/objects of interest. A probability sample is one in which each item has a known probability of being in the sample.
