Rapture is a band formed in 1998 by members of Finntroll and other musicians. They are from Helsinki, Finland. With traditional Finnish folk music (known as humppa) drumming with deep rhythmic guitar harmonies and usually dark, depressing lyrics.

History

Rapture was founded in 1998, by members of the Finnish forest metal group Finntroll. Rapture struggled to make it for almost a year. Literally losing their place to play. Then in 1999 they received a contract from Spikefarm Records, a subordinate of SpineFarm (Nightwish, Children of Bodom).The released their self-titled debut aldum in early 2000. With abysmal sales, the members of Rapture mostly focused on Finntroll. In early 2002, the band came together to record their second effort, titled Songs for the Withering. This album contained nine songs and included their only mainstream breakthrough hit Nameless. This album received much better sales and gained Rapture some recognition in the European Metal scene. Even landing a contract with Century Media for U.S. distrobution.

Today Rapture is touring as Finntroll but plan to record their third album soon.
