Relic Entertainment

Relic Entertainment is a game developer that has released four games and is now working on a fifth with THQ. These games are all Real Time Strategy games designed for the PC platform : Homeworld, Impossible Creatures, Homeworld 2, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. The Fifth one, at the moment, is known only as NSP4 (Next secret Project 4). Relic has also announced an expantion pack to Dawn of War, called Winter Assault.

Relic was started in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by Alex Garden and Luke Moloney in 1997 and released Homeworld. Though they did not continue working on the project (Sierra Entertainment, the game's publisher owned the rights), the game did have an expansion, Homeworld: Cataclysm, developed by Barking Dog Studios.

Their next title was Impossible Creatures, produced and released by Microsoft in 2002. It focused on a fictional environment during the 1930s, allowing players to design units from different anatomical parts of animals. The game was successful, though not quite as much as Homeworld.

In September 2003, a sequel Homeworld 2 was released.

On April 27, 2004, THQ announced it was acquiring Relic in an all-cash transaction, completing in early May, 2004.
