Remade

The Remade are people, or should that be, individuals in the series of books written by China Miéville, that are centered around the world of Bas-Lag. The world itself is a strange mix of magic and technology, and the Remade are an example of this, having been punished for various crimes by the addition of bodyparts, which may be either organic or mechanical. The Remade are extremely varied in nature, ranging from those who have had their legs or lower bodies replaced with steam powered engines, to others who have had parts of fish or octopus arms attached to them. One particular individual known as Tanner Sack from The Scar was remade wilfully into a amphibious human, though he was partially remade as a punishment prior to this. The Remade are generally slaves or prisoners, though in The Scar, they are free citizens living on the floating city of Armada.
