Remote Oceania
Remote Oceania is a part of Oceania (the other part is Near Oceania) Today, linguists and scientists prefer to use these classifications, replacing the more traditional classifications of Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. This concept was invented in 1973 by linguists. Remote Oceania begins east of the Solomon Islands, and encompasses all of island Melanesia southeast of the Solomons, along with Polynesia and Micronesia. This includes islands such as Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa.
