Repton

For the computer game Repton, see Repton (computer game).

Repton is a small village in Derbyshire between Derby and Burton-upon-Trent. Repton is situated at the edge of the River Trent floodplain.

It was once a capital of the kingdom of Mercia, one of the medieval kingdoms within the British Isles. A monastery, the seat of the Mercia bishops, stood there in the 7th century but was later destroyed by the Danes. Remains exist of a priory founded in 1172 and have been incorporated into the buildings of Repton School, a public school established on the grounds of the priory.

The centre of the village is dominated by the Church of Saint Wystan , which is notable for its Saxon crypt.
