Restorationist (Church of Christ-Elijah)

Restorationist is generic term describing any church or belief which originated during the Second Great Awakening early in the 19th century in the eastern United States and Canada.

Within Restorationism, the term has a more specific meaning. Here, it is most often used to distinguish between Latter Day Saint beliefs and other churches such as the Church of Christ which do not accept the later revelations and doctrine of Mormonism. The term is considered more general than one which stresses the emphasis on Latter Day Saints.

These churches trace their heritage back to the original April 6, 1830 Church of Christ. This church later changed its name to include Latter Day Saint. Restorationists typically hold to the original name, as well as the unedited first edition of the Book of Mormon, which some call by its manuscript name of Record of the Nephites.
