Rick Allen (SPEED Channel commentator)
Rick Allen (born as Rick Allen Schweiger on June 17, 1969 in Grand Island, Nebraska) is SPEED Channel's lap-by-lap announcer for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Allen joined the network in 2003 to take his position, having never done television broadcasting before. Allen's previous announcing jobs involved being a P.A. announcer for Nebraska's Eagle Raceway , and a P.A. announcer for the University of Nebraska's football and men's basketball teams. Allen also graduated from the University of Nebraska, where he was a three-time All-American decathlon competitor.
Allen's real name is Rick Allen Schweiger, but he used his middle name as his last name so it could be said quicker.
Allen has been criticized by some SPEED viewers for his mellow announcing style by not getting too excited during races, calling him boring. He is also criticized for not having done television prior to joining SPEED. One Internet blogger calls Allen a "cheap hire" because of his lack of television work.
