Rik Fox
Rik Fox, born 'Richard Suligowski', is an American-Polish acoustic guitar player.
He was born in Amityville, L.I., and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Early on, while still in High School, Rik was a budding photographer, gaining access to the N.Y. Clubs and the many up-and-coming N.Y. Glam bands of the late 1970s, like the New York Dolls, and many more. Rik also dated one of the younger sisters, thereby becaming friends with ex-KISS drummer Peter Criss, *before* Peter joined KISS, and then had the rare opportunity to watch KISS form, from the very beginning.
After arriving in Los Angeles in 1982, Rik played in different bands like Steeler , SIN and W.A.S.P.. He was only briefly a member of W.A.S.P. in its original incarnation, which came out ot the ashes of Circus Circus, and SISTER, but according to Rik, he invented the name WASP. He had the idea when he stepped on a wasp outside Blackie's courtyard, where they lived together. This is confirmed by the book: "Bang Your Head : The Rise and Fall of Heavy Metal" by David Konow .
In this book, WASP guitarist Randy Piper confirms that it was Rik Fox who, in fact, came up with the WASP name. There were others there, at the early WASP rehersals at the time, who can also confirm the story. Rik still has copies of the very first WASP photo sessions photographs, taken by early Mötley Crüe photographer Don Adkins, proving, once and for all, that Rik, was, in fact, in the band WASP, which Blackie denies the existence of, but, in fact also has copies of the same photographs. (see 1st link below: 'Chaoticworks.com/fox', click on "The WASP years" gallery).
Rik also headed his last band in Hollywood, CA, called THUNDERBALL, before cashing it in with the music industry, in the early '90s, and moving on to the film industry and some acting roles. That brought Rik's attention to Renaissance Faires, where he sought to establish Poland's identity in that venue, when there previously, was none at all. Rik has been referred to as a 'pioneer' in this venture. More may be found on the Tartearean Desire website, about Rik's music past.
Apart from being a musician Rik is the First Polish-American of noble ancestry, who represents the Polish winged hussars in U.S. History.
