River Oaks

River Oaks is an affluent community located in the geographic center of Houston, Texas (halfway between Downtown and Uptown). Total area is 1,100 acres (4 km²).

Residents are mainly well-to-do professionals, corporate executives, and mass tort lawyers. Average real estate values are in excess of a million dollars. The commute time to either Downtown, Uptown, or the Houston Medical Center is about 15 minutes.

The community has a country club (River Oaks Country Club), along with several private schools: Annunciation Orthodox , River Oaks Baptist School, St. Johns School.

Public schooling is available under the Houston Independent School District and consists of River Oaks Elementary School, Sidney Lanier Middle School, and Mirabeau B. Lamar High School.

The Doris Angleton murder was a counterpoint to this otherwise peaceful community.
