Riverton Borough, Riverton, NJ, established in 1851, is located on the Delaware River. With its sidewalks, gas lamps and victorian flavor, the town has maintained a charm through the decades by the ever-present care and volunteer spirit that its residents possess.

Riverton is home to the Riverton Yacht Club, one of the oldest and still active yacht clubs in the country. Many resident's sailboats make their home at this wonderful landmark. Since 1900, Riverton Country Club has been and remains the hidden gem of South Jersey. A Donald Ross designed course that's as beautiful as it is exclusive; don't expect to play there anytime soon...there's a 10 year waiting list to join.

Downtown, the new Riverline Light Rail system has contributed to a resurgence in public transportation. The Riverline offers daily service shuttling travelers between metro Camden and Trenton with connections to Philadelphia and New York City.

Riverton is a borough located in Burlington County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 2,759.

Geography

Riverton is located at 40°0'35" North, 75°0'43" West (40.009712, -75.011915).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²). 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 30.85% water.

Riverton borders Cinnaminson Township, Palmyra, and the Delaware River.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,759 people, 1,066 households, and 746 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,614.0/km² (4,205.1/mi²). There are 1,113 housing units at an average density of 651.1/km² (1,696.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 95.83% White, 1.78% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,066 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% are non-families. 25.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the borough the population is spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.8 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $58,977, and the median income for a family is $68,125. Males have a median income of $50,950 versus $36,042 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $30,223. 3.1% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.5% of those under the age of 18 and 2.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

History

Riverton is a quaint old "river town". Once the exclusive summer retreat of Philadelphia's social elite of the late 1800s, it is now a burgeoning community of successful young families. From Main Street to the Yacht Club to the Riverton Country Club, Riverton's old world charm leaves a lasting impresion on anyone who vists.
