Rockland, Ontario
Rockland is a bilingual (mostly francophone) community located about 25 kilometers east of Ottawa in Canada, in the city of Clarence-Rockland. In 1868 a sawmill was built here by William Clarence Edwards on the Ottawa River, followed by a link to the Grand Trunk Railway in 1888. Edwards, who held timber rights in the area and was also the first postmaster, named the area for the rocky nature of its landscape.
