Rod Donald

Rod Donald is one of the current co-leaders of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand along with Jeanette Fitzsimons.

As of 2004 he is the Green Party spokesperson on Commerce, Electoral Reform, Finance and Revenue Regional Development, Revenue, State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Superannuation, Sustainable Development and Trade.

He was born in 1957 and lives in Christchurch, New Zealand with his partner and three daughters.

Donald was a Values Party member from 1974 to 1979. He was first elected in the 1996 election as an Alliance List MP.

After the Green Party left the Alliance to stand alone at the 1999 election he was elected at number two on the Greens' party list. He retained his seat in the 2002 election.

One of his main interests for many years has been electoral reform. From 1989 to 1993 he was spokesperson for the Electoral Reform Coalition, the campaign that lead to the introduction of MMP. More recently he was instrumental in getting legislation passed to allow STV in local body elections.
