Romanian Old Kingdom
The Romanian Old Kingdom (in Romanian, Vechiul Regat) refers to the territory covered by the first independent Romanian nation-state, which was composed of the principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia. It was achieved when, under the auspices of the Paris Treaty of 1856 , the assemblies of both pricipalities - which had been under Turkish suzerainty - voted for Alexander John Cuza as their prince, thus achieving a de facto unification.
